Part-Time/Adj Librarian, NY School for Med and Dental Assts (NY)


The New York School for Medical and Dental Assistants in Long Island City, NY is seeking a Part-Time/Adjunct Librarian.

Reporting to the Campus President, the Director manages all aspects of library services and resources in support of student learning, academic programs, and faculty teaching and research. The Director will lead the library's response to rapidly emerging technologies, implement creative solutions, and enhance the information literacy of students, faculty, and staff. The Director must be able to work effectively with faculty, administrators, and staff to develop a shared vision for the library.

The specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Directly supervises the library professional staff and other personnel specifically employed for the library operation.
  • Assumes responsibility for the selection, purchase and control of the physical equipment of the library.
  • Sets policy for library operations.
  • Oversees the acquisition, cataloging and circulation of library materials which reflect the qualities of excellence appropriate to the objectives of the college.
  • Administers all aspects of the library services, staffing and resources including budget decisions and facilities planning.
  • Assumes responsibility for the development and implementation of a bibliographic instruction program for students.
  • Prepares schedules of library hours and services

Desired Qualifications

  • Two (2) or more years of experience in library reference and collection development services in an academic library
  • Teaching Experience preferred
  • Experience in library outreach and promotion of library events and services
  • Experience working collaboratively and effectively with faculty from other disciplines
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in Library or Information Science (or its equivalent) from a graduate professional program accredited by the American Library Association
  • Excellent written and oral communication.
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies in library services
