Position Summary
The American Numismatic Society, located in New York City, invites applications for a part-time Cataloger position. The Cataloger’s primary focus will be on original and copy cataloging using MARC 21 for monographs, auction catalogs, and other items, as well as the indexing of articles in English and foreign languages, using the Library’s Koha ILS. The Cataloger will also help to carry out the day-to-day activities of the Library, such as visitor services, acquisitions, and research support for members, curators, scholars, and students participating in the Society’s annual Eric P. Newman Summer Seminar in numismatics.

The ANS is a research institution dedicated to the study of numismatics of all periods and geographic areas. Its Library, the finest of its kind in North America and one of the largest in the world, maintains books, articles, catalogs, and a significant archives covering the full range of subjects relevant to the history of the world’s currencies and medallic art.

Professional experience as a library cataloger using MARC 21 is preferred. An MLIS/MLS degree is not required but preference will be given to candidates who have completed, or are enrolled in, an ALA-accredited graduate library degree program. Familiarity with numismatic, art historical, or archaeological publications is highly desirable. Also favored will be candidates with training in academic disciplines relevant to the Society’s missions and a reading-level understanding of languages other than English. Knowledge of archival principles and descriptive conventions would also be desirable. Attention to detail and organization, an ability to work collegially, and a 
commitment to providing customized service to the library's users are all essential qualities. The candidate must be able to lift heavy boxes.

Hours and Compensation
Average of 19 hours per week. Some flexibility with hours, scheduled on weekdays between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm.

Position Description:
The Graduate Center Library seeks a Data Librarian to serve as the library's expert on the discovery, manipulation, preservation, and publication of research-related data. Reporting to the Associate Librarian for Public Services and Scholarly Communication, the Data Librarian will work with faculty and students across the disciplines, providing instruction and support for the multifarious forms and roles of data in research and scholarly production.
Duties include but are not limited to:
·         Work with faculty and students who require support for research involving data (including but not limited to geospatial, demographic, and economic research), assistance creating and following data management plans required by funding agencies, and/or training in related tools and software.
·         Help faculty and students discover, collect, mine, extract, analyze, apply, maintain, secure, curate, display, share, and publish data. Advise about appropriate repositories for selecting and storing data. Support projects involving all kinds of data (GIS, demographic, bibliographic, numerical, text, sound, image, etc.), as well as projects in which data is being digitized from analog sources.
·         Offer cross-disciplinary group and one-on-one instruction on topics such as data manipulation and analysis, data management planning, file and citation management, and data visualization.
·         Maintain up-to-date knowledge about data tools and techniques, and integrate that knowledge into other duties.
·         Provide reference service in person, by chat, by email, and by phone.
·         Serve as a subject liaison for the social sciences, which includes performing outreach to departments, providing group and one-on-one instruction in research in those fields, analyzing and building collections, and helping researchers self-archive their work in the institutional repository.
·         Produce scholarly research and provide academic service in accordance with the library's tenure and promotion criteria.
·         Participate in the training of library staff, interns, and other collaborators.

ADJUNCT REFERENCE LIBRARIAN (Part-Time Library Specialist)

The Gill Library at The College of New Rochelle is seeking an Adjunct Reference Librarian, to work part time (20 hours/week) at our DC37 Campus located at 125 Barclay Street in Manhattan.  This position reports to the Dean of the Gill Library and works closely with the Director, faculty and staff at the DC37 Campus.

Responsibilities include:
*       Teach 1-2 sections of Research and Information Literacy (2 credit course)
*       Participate in the embedded librarianship program including collaborating with faculty to integrate digital and information literacy into the curriculum and to prepare active learning based instructional sessions to meet student learning needs.

The Scholarly Communications Librarian (SCL) is an innovative, forward-looking librarian who will build and promote the Institutional Repository (IR), as well as further scholarly communication as a strategic priority for CNR. Reporting to the Dean of the Library, this grant-funded position is a 12-month tenure track faculty appointment to begin January 5, 2015. The SCL promotes the availability and capacity of the IR to the College Community, faculty, researchers and students, and ensures compliance with relevant law and policy. The SCL must have a background or experience in scholarly communication, copyright, metadata creation, teaching, and working with a diverse student body. The successful candidate oversees the Technical Services Department and participates in reference services.

Required qualifications:
The successful candidate will possess a graduate degree from an ALA-accredited Library and Information Science program (second Master's degree required for tenure), and will demonstrate knowledge of best practices and experience with scholarly communication issues such as copyright, authors' rights, and open access publishing. She/he will have demonstrated knowledge of cataloging, data management, and institutional repositories, and proven experience with emerging technologies, outreach and training activities. The SCL will be able to work effectively with diverse students and colleagues and have demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills. A minimum of 3 years of professional digital services experience in an academic library setting is required, as is a minimum of 2 years of teaching, mentoring and advising students regarding copyright and undergraduate research.

Preferred qualifications include experience with Innovative Interfaces, Inc., Bepress, Springshare and OCLC products; familiarity with the principles of information literacy, a strong service commitment; extensive knowledge of information resources, and teaching in a traditional classroom setting as well as online.

Digital Collections Archivist, NYC Dept of Env (NY)

Digital Collections Archivist

The New York City Department of Environmental Protection is seeking a candidate for the position of Digital Collections Archivist to join its Records and Archives Management unit. This newly created position will administer the recently acquired digital asset management system (Extensis Portfolio), direct digitization projects, acquire and describe born digital records, implement a strategy for preserving digital assets, and improve on ways to provide access to digital assets based on user needs. This position will monitor system hardware and storage needs and interface with the agency’s Information Technology group on behalf of the unit.

·   Administer digital asset management system including service contracts, software upgrades, creating user accounts with variable security and access rights, etc.
·   Develop, implement, and document workflows and procedures for the capture, storage, and delivery of digital assets and associated metadata
·   Establish procedures and schedules to systematically receive born digital records from agency creators (starting with press office photography, capital construction photography, and serial reports/publications); lead efforts to locate and transfer high value born digital records from agency creators to archive.
·   Import descriptive metadata into Extensis Portfolio from collection inventories
·   Update collection inventories with technical digital metadata
·   Plan and direct digitization projects and perform ad-hoc digitization as required
·   Maintain and report metrics on digitization projects, born digital acquisitions and other significant information that demonstrates work progress and the merits of the unit’s digital program
·   Collaborate on the development of metadata to enhance access to digital assets including controlled vocabularies
·   Improve access to digital assets by observing and analyzing user trends and needs
·   Investigate, propose, and implement a strategy to preserve digital assets
·   Oversee hardware and software needs such as support contracts and backups; plan for growth and replacement
·   Develop, document, and provide training for digitization projects and for using Extensis Portfolio
·   Fulfill agency obligation to Local Law 11 of 2003 which requires city agencies to transfer electronic copies of official publications to the Department of Records and Information Services
·   Contribute to grant writing that supports digital projects

Qualification requirements
1. A master’s degree from an accredited college in Library Science, Archival Science, American History, Political Science or a related area, plus two years of full-time experience in archival or library science, one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity of incumbents performing at a professional level; or
2. Education and/or experience equivalent to “1” above. However, all candidates must have a master’s degree from an accredited college and the one year of supervisory experience as described in “1” above.

Princeton University Library seeks an energetic and forward-thinking library professional to lead the Engineering Library. The Engineering Librarian serves as the head of the
Engineering Library, bearing primary responsibility for all aspects of the administration of the library and supervision of a team of five library assistants.
In close liaison with the broad Engineering constituencies at the University, the Librarian develops and manages 
strong, interdisciplinary digital and print collections, and shapes and directly provides innovative services for all levels of library patrons, including reference, research consultation, individual and group instructional programs, and online guides and in-class presentations for courses and projects, in support of teaching and research in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

  • Principal in the deployment of enterprise-level information management tools and strategies: exploratory data analysis, profiling, logical and physical data modeling, mapping of legacy systems to internal and external standards, migration and normalization of  metadata to master data layer and local systems for internal management and external distribution 
  • Gather metrics related to metadata including quantity and type of descriptive attributes per asset, keyword relevancy, effectiveness, conversions and ROI.  Apply metrics to establish metadata best practices.
  • Partner with the Manager, Taxonomy position to enable relevant business units and stewards to develop and implement metadata and media management strategy and best practice: standards, naming conventions, mapping specifications, data conversion methodologies, etc.
  • Collaborate with business, application, solution, and technical architects.
  • Monitor relevant standards and participate in internal and external standards and specification development.
Education/Professional Licenses or Certificates:                                  
  • Advanced degree in Library Science, Data/Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent information management experience).
Technical and/or Specialized Skills:                                                       
  • Experience with Informatica Master Data Management (MDM), Metadata Management, and Data Quality modules, or similar tool(s).
  • Experience in the development of taxonomies, formal ontologies (OWL), thesauri and other types of controlled vocabularies.
  • Experience in logical, physical and dimensional data modeling.
  • Experience in creating and implementing metadata schemas and models.
  • Experience with data management standards, tools and technologies (e.g. XML, XSLT, RDF, etc.)
  • Familiarity with database design, warehousing, ETL, RDBMS, SQL, noSQL, big data, data management vendor solutions, and business intelligence strategies.

Wiley is looking for a Library Technical Services Specialist. Global responsibility for developing and implementing Library Technical Support Programs that directly support and engage with librarians who manage the integration of Wiley products and metadata with library systems to ensure that Wiley products are optimized for discovery and usage. Proactively support customers with integrating and obtaining MARC records for oBook purchases, and resolving missing or incomplete records by acting as a liaison between the customer, sales support, and other internal Wiley constituencies. Develop, provide and disseminate to customers best practices in discoverability for Obooks, journals, and other Wiley product categories. Manage internal sales training and support program to educate and support account managers from multiple regions. Understand customer needs and their changing requirements and share with sales, sales support and technology where necessary.
  • MLS (Masters in Library Science)
  • 3-5 years as a technical services librarian or electronic resources librarian in an academic research library environment and/or similar experience in a previous position with a scholarly content publisher
  • Expertise in books cataloguing, MARC and OPAC knowledge AACR2, RDA, MARC formats; descriptive cataloguing practices; authority control, Dewey classification, Library of Congress Subject Headings, and serial control. Federated search tools.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Sound knowledge of MS office applications
  • Ability to influence without authority, to solicit support from other sales & marketing colleagues
  • Willingness to travel when required
