Oral History Archivist, Columbia U (NY)

Oral History Archivist, Columbia Univ Libraries – NY

Columbia University Libraries/Information Services invites nominations and applications for the position of Oral History Archivist in the Rare Book and Manuscript Library.

Reporting to the Head of Archives Processing, the Archivist provides technical services, collection management, and reference support for the oral history collections including the accessioning, ingest, description, and cataloging of oral history material.

Responsibilities include:
 

1. Arranging, describing, and cataloging oral history collections, including reviewing and re-describing legacy collections and reviewing and troubleshooting legacy rights and permissions issues related to the use and dissemination of the oral history collections.

2.Providing reference services and research support for oral history collections and RBML collections more generally.

3.Ingesting and processing new collections from the Columbia Center for Oral History Research and other sources.

4.Working on digital projects, including helping to conceptualize, execute, and provide metadata for said projects.

5.Reviewing and updating the oral history portal and other access systems for oral history collections.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have:

1. Demonstrated knowledge of archival theory and practice

2. Knowledge and experience with oral history and/or oral history archives

3.Familiarity with current cataloging standards

4.Ability to consistently plan and execute projects

5. A commitment to remaining on top of a rapidly changing field and constantly
evolving professional practices.
