F/T - Senior Information Specialist, Business Information Center, AIG (NYC)

The Business Information Center (BIC) delivers information and insights to AIG internal clients to better understand markets and to support business development, profitable growth, customer focus, product development and governance. The BIC team provides answers to questions on insurance, business, technical, regulatory, legal, and financial issues to AIG’s operations throughout the world. We use external data and research from global information providers, along with our own internal data, to better understand and interpret the business environment and market opportunities.


The Senior Information Specialist will conduct specialized research and analysis of companies, industries, markets and competitors using a comprehensive range of resources in the areas of insurance, finance, industry,and legal for marketing, product and business development.
Responsibilities Include:
Manage and execute research requests comprising a wide range of insurance, business, finance, industry, market, executive and competitive intelligence data.
Synthesize information to provide succinct profiles, market overviews, due diligence background summaries, analysis of industry trends, and competitor activity.
Prepare analysis and executive summaries of research results to highlight key finding and insights.
Identify appropriate research resources and strategies; manage and prioritize multiple projects, analyze complex facts and topics in a time sensitive environment.
Familiar with current digital/social media, media applications and resources for brand and marketing metrics.
Participate in project meetings and follow up on progress.
Evaluate insurance/business/legal and market intelligence resources based on quality,relevance, authenticity, uniqueness, accuracy and cost.
Focus on research strategy, quality, thoroughness, accuracy, clarity to ensure comprehensive coverage of markets and business development topics.
Monitor projects and maintain internal project records and tracking systems for project and metrics management.
Required to keep abreast of current events in the insurance and business information fields.
Demonstrated commitment to professional development, education and digital learning initiatives : attend conferences, seminars and regular research training.
Position Requirements
Master’s degree (MLS,MLIS, MSIS, MSc) in information/library/market analysis/business intelligence. Consideration would also be given to a candidate with a Master’s degree in Information & knowledge strategy, or related research and data-intensive discipline.
8+ years experience with demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple competing projects and a complex workload in a fast paced environment.
Demonstrates excellent research skills, including meticulous attention to detail and knowledge of insurance, financial, and legal research databases.
Ability to interpret and synthesize information and data, with strong writing skills to provide actionable results in a clear and logical manner.
Excellent presentation and communication skills to confidently deliver and explain research findings and insights verbally and through written summaries and analysis.
Demonstrated ability to establish positive and productive collaborations with diverse groups.
Knowledge and understanding of best practices, current issues and trends in secondary research resources, open access publishing, data management and curation.
Strong interpersonal and team skills and an ability to work independently.
Complete proficiency with MS Office analytical platforms and advanced knowledge in Excel, including capacity to develop complex reporting workbooks, macros,and formulae.
Experience with Sharepoint, data visualization tools and Adobe Illustrator a plus.
