F/T - Asst. Editor, Library Journal (NY)

Assistant Editor, Library Journal – NY

Library Journal (LJ), the leading trade magazine serving the library industry and profession, seeks an Assistant Editor to assign and edit reviews covering several nonfiction subject areas for print and online, as well as to copyedit/post online-only coverage for Library Journal’s review section generally.

Additional responsibilities include general duties such as:
·       Recruiting and fostering subject-expert reviewers
·       Contributing to the LJ review section’s blog, In the Bookroom, and to LJ’s social media presence
·       Representing LJ at live and virtual events such as webcasts and conferences
·       Writing and/or editing occasional magazine features as assigned
·       Keeping current with book trends and library market news, with an eye toward  contributing ideas for new and expanding areas of coverage

The Assistant Editor will report to the LJ Reviews Editor, and will work closely with the rest of the LJ editorial team. Candidate must be comfortable in a fast-paced, demanding work environment that requires meticulous attention to detail, and must be able to juggle a variety of competing deadlines.

The ideal candidate will have proven writing/editing experience, as well as deep familiarity with InCopy and WordPress among other platforms and software. While not required, familiarity with library issues and library/information science education is highly desirable.
