P/T - Outreach Librarian, Queens Library (NY)



Part Time Outreach Librarian, MyLibraryNYC Initiative

Queens LIbrary, Programs and Services Department

This is a temporary grant-funded position.



Under the supervision of the Coordinator of Young Adult Services, the part time Outreach Librarian is responsible for developing and maintaining Queens Library’s relationships with the NYC Department of Education and local schools as part of the MyLibraryNYC initiative.  This position will deliver core services to the participating schools during the school year, requires frequent travel to Queens Library locations and Queens public schools, and requires fingerprinting by the NYC Department of Education.



Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works with local schools to ensure all students and educators have library cards
  • Provides training to educators and students on MyLibraryNYC interface, Queens Library online resources and other topics as needed
  • Visits assigned pilot schools to support  faculty, students and parents in use of MyLibraryNYC resources and services
  • Assists educators in selecting and requesting appropriate teacher sets
  • Participates in community outreach and attends community events
  • Acts as liaison between pilot schools and local Queens Library locations
  • Supports class visits at Community Libraries for pilot schools
  • Assists in data collection for pilot project
  • Assists in creating promotional materials and training materials
  • Serves as a resource and problem solver for project-related questions from pilot schools
  • Provides reference and reader’s advisory services
  • Performs other duties as assigned



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • This position requires an MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited library school and eligibility for NYS librarian certification
  • Minimum 3 years relevant experience working with youth
  • Significant outreach experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability for planning, organization and administration
  • Evidence of thorough knowledge of library policy, procedures and objectives
  • Strong presentation and programming skills
  • Familiarity with the NYC public school environment preferred
