F/T - Ref. Librarian (Milbank, Tweed Law) (NY)


Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP is seeking a full-time Reference Librarian for its headquarters in New York.

Responsibilities
  • Assist lawyers, legal assistants, support staff and clients in conducting research utilizing knowledge of corporate terminology, SEC corporate filings and forms (domestic and international), understanding of the parties involved, the types of securities being issued, the specific deal types as well as understanding the securities laws and regulations.
  • Assist lawyers, legal assistants, support staff and clients in conducting research utilizing skills and knowledge of online databases which include but not limited to, Lexis, Westlaw, Westlaw Business, Knowledge Mosaic, Dialog, Bloomberg and other online research resources.
  • Perform competitive intelligence research for Marketing and Practice Areas.
  • Maintain the folders of incoming in the NY Library reference desk.  Follow up with users on request to make sure the work is done to completion.
  • Support and assist in maintenance of department web projects, including practice area portals.
  • Assist in the maintenance of in house precedents databases including the migration of practice area precedents collection to NetDocs.
  • Support and assist with Interlibrary Loan requests.

Qualifications
·         MLS from an ALA accredited institution.
·         4 years reference research experience with high concentration in corporate research in a Law Firm setting is a must. 
·         Familiarity with Portal technologies and maintenance of Knowledge Management applications is highly desirable (Sharepoint and DMS systems). 
  • Extensive knowledge of online business and legal providers, resources and delivery formats including CCH IntelliConnect, Courtlink, KnowledgeMosaic, Lexis, Westlaw, Bloomberg, Westlaw Business as well as extensive knowledge of legal print resources.
  • Must exhibit strong attention-to-detail, ability to multi-task, meet strict deadlines and remain flexible.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills and excellent customer service. 
  • Must be self-motivated and work effectively as part of a team. 
  • Must be available to report to work on regularly scheduled days and at the scheduled hour.
