Job Description:

Provides Reference and Research Assistance

The position is integral to the connection of our academic community to the information, resources, and materials which impart knowledge in their disciplines of study. Reference and research assistance will be of utmost importance to the foundation of strong academic engagement with students using the best resources available to meet their needs of study. The Reference, Instruction, and Outreach Librarian will be familiar with the resources necessary to fulfill the research needs of our library users and engage them in fulfilling reference interviews.

Prepares library exhibits (physical and virtual)

The Reference, Instruction, and Outreach Librarian will engage our academic community through the exemplary display of new, archival, special, and topical collections to the public online and in house. Routinely producing new and engaging display cases and their digital surrogates will improve resource literacy for our academic community and researchers.

Conducts Information Literacy classes and prepares online research guides

As a way to educate and engage our students across campus, the Reference, Instruction, and Outreach Librarian will lead Information Literacy classes to connect students personally in their research needs. Information Literacy classes are not static experiences; rather, they continue to challenge students in their research, inquiry, and original interpretation skills throughout their academic careers. Online research guides will complement the subject material at a level which is accessible to students in their independent study time.

Liaisons with the online/distance learning programs

In order to promote the new resources available to online/distance learning programs via Banner [Angel], the Reference, Instruction, and Outreach Librarian will build the library’s presence along with resource accessibility in the electronic environment. Reference and access assistance will be of primary importance in the distance learning paradigm for students who are unable to access campus physically.

Coordinates communication and outreach to the academic community

In the situation of guest lecturers, special services, research competitions, new exhibits, and similar noteworthy events, the Reference, Instruction, and Outreach Librarian will communicate the event to public relations and outreach venues in house (including the library’s blog), across campus, and off campus. Outreach may be accomplished through digital and analog announcements/press releases.

Leads Library Assessment efforts with data analysis, statistics

The Reference, Instruction, and Outreach Librarian will note the trends, outcomes, and objectives of the library based on documented statistics on a regular basis and will compare this data points with other similar institutions.

Leads the library’s efforts in the preparation and submission of grant applications

The Reference, Instruction, and Outreach Librarian will maintain departmental awareness of upcoming grants, requirements, and deadlines in addition to updating the in house spreadsheet on grant information.

Review and update website content

The website content will be reviewed and updated as appropriate with other members of the library faculty, with particular attention paid to the level of access, archival representation, and outreach components promoted by the Reference, Instruction, and Outreach Librarian.

Prepare reports, questionnaires, and surveys

In order to address the effectiveness of library policy, procedure, and methodology, the Reference, Instruction, and Outreach Librarian will engage the community in methods of sampling to promote accurate feedback. With the knowledge of how users are engaged at the library, what methods are exceptional, and where improvements can be leveraged, the feedback of library users will be provided in reports made directly to the Chair of the department and library colleagues

Requirements:

Required Experience

•ALA-accredited MLS degree,•2 years of relevant experience; experience with teaching Information Literacy and developing research guides; working knowledge of library management systems; experience with online delivery of library services and resources; experience with reference both in person and online; Familiarity with creating subject guides using Libguides or a similar productPreferred:

•Advanced degree in another academic discipline•Experience in an academic library setting•Familiarity with Course Management System

Classification/Salary Range:

The Reference, Instruction and Outreach Librarian is a United University Professions position. The anticipated salary range will be contingent on the qualifications of the incumbent. Review of application will commence immediately and conclude when position is filled.



Special Notes: This is a full time calendar year appointment UUP position. Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
