Reporting to the Chief Information Strategist, the Content Analyst is responsible for enterprise-wide information gathering and content implementation for the Global Commons initiative. The Content Analyst collaboratively identifies content relevant to Columbia's global impact and builds and populates the database for the Global Commons website.

Responsibilities:

1. In concert with the Chief Information Strategist, the incumbent is responsible for implementing processes involving the obtainment of global content from sources throughout the University.

2. Responsible for sustaining the process for capturing global data and categorizing the data within an intuitive, robust and accessible web interface. The incumbent is accountable for upholding the highest standards of support, accuracy and detail.

3. Defines research requirements for web strategy. Selects, evaluates and edits content while maintaining a site content inventory. Ensures the accuracy and integrity of data. Develops process and design for verifying content.

4. Responsible for building and maintaining a database to hold the data that is collected from the University community. Must have the ability to identify the best technical infrastructure for the project. Responsible for managing the technical aspects of connecting and uploading data into the Global Commons website. Develops content models for CMS implementations by defining elements and classification schemes. Establishes and identifies methods and applications for tool development for process automatization.

5. Responsible for ensuring the safety of the database. This includes implementing the appropriate safeguards and backup systems.

6. Formats and enters data into the database. The incumbent may, at times, have the assistance of student workers for these tasks. It is expected that the incumbent would utilize technology to assist in this effort.

7. The incumbent will liaison with the project manager, the web design vendor-partner, the Office of Public Affairs, Columbia University Information Technology (CUIT), and other units to ensure a smooth functioning workflow.

8. Performs other duties as assigned.  
Bachelor's degree or its equivalent required. Minimum 3 years of related experience.  
Minimum of 3 years' experience working in a research capacity or other relevant experience. Superior verbal and written communication skills including editorial skills required. Strong computer skills, including understanding of relational databases required. Content development and editorial calendar planning experience required. Proficiency with MS Office Suite, Photoshop and other Adobe products and with HTML, CSS, JS and XML authoring tools required. Must have familiarity with SEO concepts, web analytics systems and social media platforms. Strong organizational skills required. Ability to coordinate multiple projects with competing priorities. The incumbent will need high personal motivation, self-management, and detail-orientation; ability to take responsibility in meeting deadlines and making progress without direct supervision. Must have the ability to retrieve and compile information from multiple sources to complete assignments. Tact and good judgment in confidential situations and proven experience interacting with senior management required. May be required to work nontraditional hours. Confidentiality and discretion are required.
