Project Web Developer

As
part of a grant-funded project, the Wildlife Conservation Society
Library & Archives seeks a creative and experienced web developer.
In consultation with the WCS
Archivist, the project web developer will work within open source
software to design, create, and implement a website to display content
(in the form of digitized early-twentieth-century scrapbooks) and
metadata.
Beyond
monthly scheduled meetings with the WCS Archivist, the project web
developer will work independently and is expected to finish the project
within 5 months. The
project, including the meetings, may be done remotely.
The Archives serves as WCS’s memory, with collections spanning its rich history as a
leader
in global wildlife conservation and as the manager of the world’s
largest system of urban wildlife parks, led by the flagship Bronx Zoo.
Through projects like this one, the Archives seeks to provide
innovative ways to serve and engage both scholars and the general
public.
Requirements:
- Working experience with open source digital repository and eReader software
- Demonstrated ability to customize open source applications to enhance user experience
- Strong attention to site aesthetics and efficiency
- Evidence of ability to solve problems creatively and meet deadlines
Preferred:
- Work experience in library or archives setting
- Familiarity with archival metadata standards
