Strategic Market Intelligence (SMI) Analyst - Banking and Capital Markets, Regulatory - New York, NY

Job summary
Global regulatory reform is a key driver of change in the Financial Services (FS) industry, affecting how EY's clients do business now and in the years to come. EY is helping clients at board, group and business line levels, and regulatory reform-related solutions are a key focus area for EY's FS practice.

This is a new role for an analyst with a particular focus on regulatory change in key jurisdictions in the Americas. The analyst will be responsible for tracking and producing internal alerts on key regulatory change items across Americas by country and theme, supporting the build out of timelines and point of views on regulatory change impact at Americas jurisdictional and global levels, as well as leading, managing and contributing to other regulatory change-related research and analysis projects in response to customer needs.

The analyst will be part of the virtual EY Knowledge research and analysis team and will work closely with the analyst in the equivalent role in EMEIA and with the senior global analyst for the regulatory reform agenda.

Responsibilities
Participates in strategic and complex initiatives that support accounts by understanding both the global and Americas landscape for regulatory change in the financial services sector.
Identifies issues and events that will impact regulatory change in the banking industry; recognizes causes and key drivers; and presents an insightful perspective within the context of Ernst & Young solutions.

Works collaboratively to produce insightful qualitative and/or quantitative analysis to fulfil both structured and unstructured requests to support the executive leadership or customer groups; includes the creation (or the project management or contribution to) of newsletters, internal briefings, early warning alerts, points of view, and other deliverables.
Develop network of relationships with Subject Matter Advisors and country leaders for risk and regulatory issues.

Possesses a strong understanding of the financial services industry and has a keen interest in the impact of regulatory change/reform.

Demonstrates an understanding of analytical tools and techniques, including those specific to the financial services community, and deftly adapts those tools to address analytical issues.

Breaks down events into causes and key drivers.

Demonstrates the ability to develop multiple hypotheses regarding alternative conclusions; investigate the alternatives and to recommend solutions.

Draws together information from primary and secondary sources to prove or disprove hypotheses.

Transforms ideas into insights and outlines possible outcomes or implications.

Demonstrates the ability to use what if" approaches to determine impact of changes on all areas of a client's business or logical next steps if status quo continues.

Possesses the ability to collect information from individuals using direct interviewing and elicitation techniques. Is able to adapt the approach, collection techniques and questions during interview to the knowledge of key topics.

Demonstrates good use of structured thinking in analytics. Articulates points of view clearly and coherently.

Presents information visually in a compelling manner, supplementing text and narrative.

Written and spoken presentation is sophisticated and tailored to the audience.

Demonstrated analysis capability

Deep understanding of the financial services sector and an interest in regulatory change

Confidence to provide a point of view; proactively offers solutions and alternative approaches

Strong synthesis skills to bring together a variety of perspectives and sources and develop a conclusion in context of Ernst & Young

Able to use both qualitative and quantitative methodologies including financial analysis skills

Effectively manages customer expectations

Able to work with limited supervision; works well under pressure

Provides guidance, coaching and development to other analysts and researchers

Qualifications
To qualify, candidates must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field (e.g., Economics, Public Policy Finance, Business, Statistics, Journalism, Law) or equivalent work experience
  • Master's degree or postgraduate studies preferred
  • Five years or more experience in a financial services, legal, professional services or consulting environment or with a financial services regulator
  • Detailed knowledge and proven track record in conducting industry/ competitive intelligence analysis and research
  • Knowledge and experience within a professional services environment an advantage
  • Succinct and structured oral and written communications skills
  • Proficient presentation skills
  • Works with limited supervision; works well under pressure and produces multiple deliverables in a fast-paced environment
  • Responds to requests with a sense of urgency; able to prioritize conflicting needs
  • Good project and time management skills; strong attention to detail
  • Comfortable working in a virtual team environment
  • Develops strong working relationships with senior levels of Ernst & Young leadership
  • Proficient in retrieval of information from proprietary online databases (e.g., Bloomberg, Factiva), wire services, the internet and other secondary sources
  • Excellent Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • May require occasional travel
  • Proficient in English, both written and verbal. Spanish and/or Portuguese would be an advantage but are not required.
