F/T - Medical Librarian Admin Coordinator - Mt Sinai School of Medicine

Medical Librarian Administrative Coordinator

The Mount Sinai School of Medicine's Levy Library is seeking candidates for an Information and Instructional Services librarian. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and experienced librarian to contribute to the development of Levy Library's dynamic educational program and to build its consultation services.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide educational sessions to faculty, students and staff on: identifying, evaluating and using evidence-based resources; developing search strategies for bibliographic databases, data repositories and/or grey literature; managing information retrieval; and preparing manuscripts and presentations. Instruction may be provided in classrooms, at point-of-care and/or online.
  • Develop instructional materials, tutorials, and assessment tools to be delivered through the Library's website and Blackboard learning management system.
  • Outreach to clinical and research faculty to ascertain information and service needs and opportunities for collaboration.
  • Collaborate with faculty to expand library instruction and evidence-based medicine initiatives within the medical school curriculum and within residency programs.
  • Collaborate with faculty to support the institution's clinical and translational research initiatives.
  • Provide research consultations to faculty, students and staff.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Provide in-person, telephone, and virtual reference services.
  • Assist in evaluating biomedical resources and tools for library acquisition.
  • Serve on institution-wide and library committees as appropriate.
  • Investigate emerging technologies and plan their integration into library instruction and other services.
  • Promote library services and resources through the library newsletter, blog and other marketing efforts.
  • Participate in the planning and evaluation of library programs and services.
Job Qualifications:
MLS from an ALA accredited program. Demonstrated aptitude for teaching. Extensive knowledge of the biomedical literature and familiarity with the scholarly communication and research processes in the biomedical sciences. Expertise in searching PubMed/Medline, citation databases such as Web of Science or Scopus, and evidence-based medicine resources. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong public service orientation and demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Preferred:
Expertise in conducting comprehensive literature searches in support of systematic reviews, comparative effectiveness research, or other scholarly or clinical activities highly desirable. Subject knowledge in a biomedical or clinical discipline. Experience in collaborating with faculty to develop education initiatives. Experience teaching medical students and/or house staff effective strategies for asking clinical questions and acquiring the best evidence. Experience in Web page creation and design and the design, integration, and assessment of Web 2.0 technologies such as wikis, blogs and Twitter. Experience in using and teaching the use of bibliographic management software such as EndNote and RefWorks.
