F/T - Librarian/Sr Librarian - NYPL, Andrew Heiskell Braille and Talking Bk Library

Responsibilities
Reporting to the Supervising Librarian for Services, Programs, and Outreach:
  • Develops innovative services for readers 18 and under who have difficulty reading standard printed materials
  • Develops partnerships with organizations, agencies and schools that work with current and potential users of the National Library Service (NLS) to increase awareness of services, programs, and collections
  • Provides reader advisory and registration assistance to users of all ages in person at public service desks, over the telephone, and online via email and social media platforms
  • Coordinates, delivers, and reports on public programs for all ages
  • Participates in designing and implementing new services and/or process improvements to existing services
  • Develops strategies to enhance the user experience
  • Produces and edits content for the Andrew Heiskell Library’s social media accounts, blog, and quarterly newsletter NewsLion
  • Instructs patrons in the use of library and assistive technology
  • Troubleshoots patron computer and download issues
  • Selects quantities of NLS materials for children and teens, and performs subject cataloging for the materials
  • Directs staff and resolves issues in the absence of supervisors
  • Travels to promote library services in New York City as necessary
  • Performs related duties as required
 Qualifications
  • ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library and Information Studies
  • Demonstrated customer service skills, including the ability to work patiently, thoroughly, and accurately with patrons who may need extended assistance
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, including the ability to deliver effective presentations to the public
  • Successful track record of demonstrating creativity, flexibility, and initiative in accommodating community and staff needs
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver a diverse program of activities
  • Successfully demonstrated problem solving skills and the ability to exercise good judgment
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office and web proficiency, with experience using social media sites and the ability to learn new technologies
  • Experience working with the visually impaired preferred
  • Knowledge of literature for children and teens preferred
  • Experience utilizing Keystone Library Automation System (KLAS) preferred
  • Knowledge of Spanish and/or Russian preferred
