F/T - Knowledge and Learning Services Librarian - Darien Public Library

Full-Time Knowledge and Learning Services Librarian Position
The innovative Darien Library (CT), one of the busiest and most highly ranked public libraries of its size in the country, seeks a positive, energetic, and dedicated individual to join an innovative Knowledge and Learning Services Department as a full-time Reference Librarian.
The successful candidate will provide quick reference, detailed research and reader's advisory assistance, develop and maintain assigned library collections, provide one-on-one and group training for library patrons and staff, and provide programming for adults.
Qualifications and Skills:
- MLS degree from an ALA-accredited library sciences or information sciences graduate program.  Two to four years of increasing responsibility preferred.

- Collection development experience, including print and electronic formats.
- Strong working knowledge of computer applications for library services.
- Proficiency with basic office applications such as Microsoft Office and Google Docs, as well as familiarity with downloadable technology and various devices.- Strong written and oral communications skills.
- Superior interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly and with sensitivity when responding to patrons’ information needs.     
- Available to work one evening per week and 1-2 weekends per month.
- Knowledge of Polaris ILS is preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Provides extreme customer service to patrons in person, on the phone, via email, IM chats, and text messages.
- Develops reading, reference, and research materials through selection and purchase of books and non-print material. 
- Plans and organizes programs involving the use of library resources.  Interacts with community organizations to enhance reference collection and patron information opportunities.
- Participates in the updating of automated reference systems and related technology.
- Participates in creating content for the Library website, including blog posts, booklists, and instructional videos.
- Other duties as needed.
Starting Salary: $50,700 (37.5 hours per week)
